Tramontane is a name given to a northern wind. Louis and Odette, the owners of Villa La Tramontane, named their masterpiece of a home after the northern winds of the Mediterranean, where Louis hails. We are fortunate enough to have found this gem on our first trip to Guadeloupe in June 2016 and three months later, we signed a contract for its purchase. The villa was built in traditional Caribbean style with Creole influences. It has strong bones to withstand a hurricane and touches of feng shui architecture to harmonize with the surrounding environment. The position of the house was chosen to maximize winds from the mountain and the volcanic rocks and placement of the tropical plants were well thought out by a local architect. The wooden beams and rails are redwood, the floors are hardwood and tile, and the roof line is almost pagoda like. Leroux Beach is a minute’s walk. Our only challenge now is to sell our two homes in Arizona so that we can begin the next phase of our lives.
